Vintage Bergans Rucksack, 1934
The latest addition to the CHERCHBI bag archive is this excellent vintage rucksack, given to me by a friend of my parents who bought it from Lillywhites in 1934 (many thanks to Walt Dennison). Its by Bergans of Norway, a truly innovative outdoor brand who are still going strong today. Maybe I’ve gone a little overboard with all the images, but the simplicity of design, incredibly robust materials and attention to detail in certain areas are all just incredible. The leather quality is beautiful, despite its age and obvious use. The pulley system at the top of the shoulder straps is truly innovative, even by today’s standards, and the branded hardware and trim is excellent, particularly the ‘without/with’ cartoon emboss on the leather top patch. I’ve gushed enough, see for yourself here.
